What changed on 1 October 2026?

Meta charges for Platform messages per message. Until now, replies to a customer inside the 24-hour customer service window (service messages) were free, and so were utility templates sent inside that window. From 1 October 2026, Meta says it will charge per message for both. Service messages are charged at the same rates as utility and authentication messages in each market. In practice, a business that used the API mainly to answer customers who messaged first will now see a bill it didn't have before. Marketing templates were already charged.

How much will WhatsApp cost my business?

  • Count the conversations you have in a month and roughly how many replies each takes.
  • Split outgoing messages into service replies, utility (confirmations, updates), marketing and authentication.
  • Multiply each by the UK rate on Meta's rate card.
  • Add the monthly fee of whichever provider or software you use on top.

The numbers are usually small per message and add up with volume, so the build is designed to send fewer, more useful messages: one confirmation instead of three nudges.

What's worth automating on WhatsApp?

  • Enquiries

First questions answered and photos collected, then the enquiry dropped into your job system.

  • Missed calls

A WhatsApp or text sent to anyone whose call you missed. See missed-call text-back.

  • Bookings and reminders

Confirmations and reminders that cut no-shows. See reminders and no-shows.

  • Messages sent to the wrong person

When a customer WhatsApps your technician directly and the office finds out later: one business number, shared by the team, with every conversation logged.
