Why this decides what you can automate
If your job, booking or practice software has a public API, a system can read and write to it directly: create the job when the enquiry arrives, send the reminder when the appointment is booked, chase the invoice when it goes overdue. If it doesn't, every automation is a workaround.
Vendors rarely say this plainly on their pricing pages, so we went to each one's developer documentation, help centre and integration listings and wrote down what we found. Where a page wouldn't load or didn't say, the index says unknown rather than guessing.
How to read the index
Public API
Whether a business can get credentials and connect its own systems. Self-serve means you can switch it on yourself. Partner-only or on request means the vendor approves each integration, which adds days or weeks.
Webhooks
Whether the software tells another system the moment something happens, such as a new booking. Without webhooks, a system has to check for changes every few minutes (polling). That works, but it's slower and uses more API calls.
Zapier / Make
Whether there's a ready-made app on the two biggest no-code automation platforms. Community apps are built by third parties, not the vendor. An app here is often the cheapest place to start.
What it means
Our one-line read on how hard the software is to automate today.
Trades and field service
| Software | Public API | Webhooks | Zapier / Make | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jobber | Yes, self-serve (OAuth app) | Yes | Zapier yes; Make community app | The best-documented option here. A custom app on one account gets the full API and live events. |
| ServiceM8 | Yes, self-serve (API key) | Yes, but only through an OAuth app | Zapier yes; Make yes (verified) | Easy to start with a key. For live events, register an OAuth app (it can stay unlisted). |
| Commusoft | Yes, on plans that include it | Not documented | Zapier yes (job triggers); Make no | Workable if the subscription includes API access; use Zapier triggers for events. |
| Simpro | Premium builds only (OAuth per build) | Limited (payments and invoices) | Zapier yes; Make community app | Fine on Premium. Expect to poll for anything beyond payments and invoices. |
| Fergus | Yes, self-serve (token or OAuth) | Not documented | Zapier yes; Make no | Easy to start; use Zapier triggers until webhooks are confirmed. |
| Powered Now | No developer docs found | Unknown | Zapier yes (extensive); Make no | Zapier is the only route we could find. Ask the vendor about API access. |
| Joblogic | Paid add-on, on request | Yes | Zapier yes; Make community app | A real API, but paid and approved per customer. Zapier is the cheaper start. |
| Tradify | No | No | No | No way in. Data can only be reached through its Xero or QuickBooks sync. |
We've written up how we automate several of these: Jobber, ServiceM8, Commusoft.

Dental practices and clinics
| Software | Public API | Webhooks | Zapier / Make | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dentally | Yes: practice token today; partner-only OAuth API arriving | Yes (appointments, patients, payments) | Zapier no; Make none found | Buildable today. Plan for the move to partner OAuth access once the older API is retired. |
| Pabau | Yes, self-serve | Yes (clients, appointments, leads, sales) | Zapier yes; Make none found | The easiest clinic system here: self-serve keys, live events and Zapier. |
| Semble | Yes, depending on package and role | Yes, once support switches them on | None found | A strong fit. Check the package and ask support to enable webhooks first. |
| Cliniko | Yes, self-serve (per-user key) | No | Zapier no; Make yes (verified, partner-built) | Easy to read and write, but changes have to be picked up by polling. |
| Nookal | Yes, self-serve | Unknown | Zapier none; Make community app | Usable; assume polling. |
| WriteUpp | Read-only, paid plans only | Not mentioned | None found | Fine for reporting. Bookings can't be written back. |
| Software of Excellence (EXACT) | Partner-only, not taking new partners | Unknown | None found | No route in at the moment. |
| Carestream R4+ | No public API found | Unknown | None found | Treat as closed unless you have a Carestream partnership. |
We've written up how we automate several of these: Dentally, Cliniko, Semble, Pabau.

Gyms, studios and salons
| Software | Public API | Webhooks | Zapier / Make | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TeamUp | Yes, self-serve | Yes | Zapier yes; Make community app | The easiest here: self-serve credentials, live events, official Zapier app. |
| Glofox | On application to ABC Fitness, per branch | Yes | Zapier yes (Elite plan); Make none found | Workable once ABC approves each studio. |
| Mindbody | Yes, after approval and owner activation; metered | Yes | Zapier via paid bridge only; Make community app | Strong API, but each studio needs approval and calls over 1,000 a day are charged. |
| Phorest | On request, per salon | No (poll for changes) | Zapier none; Make community app | Workable after approval; changes are picked up by polling. |
| Fresha | No; paid read-only data connector | None mentioned | None found | Reporting data only. No way to write bookings in or react to events. |
| Gymcatch | No public API found | Unknown | Zapier no (vendor confirms); Make none | No integration route. |
| Treatwell | Partner-only, under licence | Unknown | None found | A marketplace whose supplier terms forbid other booking software for its customers. Don't build around it. |
We've written up how we automate several of these: TeamUp, Glofox, Phorest.

| Smokeball | Partner-only, after a security review | Yes | Zapier yes; Make no | Production access takes a partner application. Zapier works in the meantime. |
| LEAP | Developer registration and app review | Unknown | Zapier actions only; Make no | Plan for app review; expect to poll rather than receive events. |
| Xero | Yes, self-serve (free tier up to 5 connections) | Yes | Zapier yes; Make yes (verified) | Open. Its terms ban using API data to train AI models; processing it with AI is fine. |
| QuickBooks Online | Yes, self-serve (metered tiers) | Yes | Zapier yes; Make yes (verified) | Open, with a free tier. |
| Sage Accounting | Yes, self-serve | Not confirmed | Zapier yes; Make yes (verified) | Open; plan on polling. |

| IRIS (Cashbook, KashFlow) | Per product, on request (about 5 working days) | Unknown | No | An approval wait per product and no no-code route. |
| Sage 50 (desktop) | No REST API; paid SDK | No | Zapier no | Practically closed. |
We've written up how we automate several of these: Clio, Smokeball, Xero.

These are the glue most automations run through: email, calendars and a CRM.
When your software has no way in
A closed system isn't always the end of the road, but every option below is a compromise. Be wary of anyone who skips past that.
Work from what it already syncs
Tradify has no API, but it syncs with Xero and QuickBooks, which are open. Some jobs can be automated from the accounting side.
Work from email
Most systems send confirmation emails. Reading those can trigger the next step, though it breaks if the vendor changes the wording.
Scheduled exports
Regular CSV exports can feed reports and reminders. It isn't live, but it's dependable.
Ask the vendor
Several vendors here grant access on request. A customer asking is often what moves it.
Switch
If the software blocks the work that matters most to you, that belongs in the decision when the contract comes up for renewal.
How we use this
Logica HQ builds automations on top of the software firms already run, rather than replacing it. This index is the first thing we check before quoting. A CRM or job software integration starts from £1,250 + £79 a month, or £2,450 + £149 a month for a two-way sync, and work that no ready-made connection covers is a custom agent. Every price is on our pricing page.
Method, and corrections welcome
We checked every tool on 1 October 2026 against its own developer documentation, help centre and integration pages, and against its listing (or absence) on Zapier and Make. Some vendor pages wouldn't load for automated checks; where we relied on a vendor's own text quoted in search results or its official forum, we marked the result conservatively. A missing Zapier or Make listing means we couldn't find one, not proof that none exists.
Software changes. If you work for one of these vendors and something here is out of date, tell us through our contact page and we'll correct it and update the date.
